VENETIAN WALLS & MONASTERY
Upper Bergamo is surrounded by a large fortification: the Venetian walls, built between 1561 and 1588. Their full length is approximately six kilometers, and the most spectacular section, from Colle Aperto to the former monastery of Sant’Agostino, can be visited on foot.
The new center of Bergamo is characterized by a large area known as SENTIERONE.
The ACCADEMIA CARRARA (Art Gallery) has one of the best museum collections in Italy. The Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (GAMEC) is located opposite the Gallery in a sixteenth-century convent. It periodically hosts exhibitions of great interest.
